The Cowgirls shot an impressive 893 (+29), which is the second lowest event score through 54 holes in Wyoming Cowgirls golf history at the MountainView Collegiate in Tucson, Arizona.
“The team has shown tremendous improvement from the fall and I’m really looking forward to capping off the season with our home tournament and Mountain West tournament,” UW head coach Josey Stender said to a Wyoming Athletics press release.
Senior Samantha Stancato led the cowgirls with a finish of 34th. Stancato carded a final round of 75(+3) for a total score of 220(+4). Sophomore Taylor Dorans followed with a 75( +3) ending with a total of 223 (+7), tying for 50th place.
Junior Emily Woodard shot a 75(+3) in the final round for a total score of 226(+10), tying her for 65th. Sophomore Mackenzie Barrie carded the lowest score of the third day for UW, with a 74(+2) for a total of 227(+11). Redshirt Freshman Gabrielle Gibson closed the event for the cowgirls with a final round of 78(+6) for a total score of 239(+23) tying her for 98th.
“It was great to see Sam’s complete game and lead the team,” said coach Stender to a Wyoming Athletics press release.
Ohio State won the tournament after the final round with an 856 (-8). FIU’s Meghan MacLaren won the individual title with a total of 209 (-7).
The next Wyoming Cowgirls’ event will be hosting the Wyoming Cowgirl Classic in Maricopa, Arizona on April 6 and 7.
