Track team has success in Fort Collins

Over the past weekend the Cowboys track team fared well at the Fum McGraw Quadrangular at Jack Christiansen Track in Colorado Springs, Colorado.

The track team took down Colorado and Northern Colorado, but lost against Colorado State.

“I was very happy with the effort both teams gave today,” UW head coach Bryan Berryhill said. “It was a little more focused today than a week ago and it showed.”

Sophomore Jordan Charles kick started the Cowboys dominant performance with a win in the 400-meter hurdles. Charles won the race with a time of 53.03. Charles also placed second in the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 14.31. Fellow teammate junior Scott Carter also placed second in long jump with a distance of 23-0 ¾, Carter was also able to muster another runner up finish in the triple jump with a distance of 48-4 ¾.

Senior Jason Roascio and freshman Ricky Faure kept the Pokes momentum going with Roascio finishing first in the 200-meters with a blazing time of 22.09. Ricky Faure finished behind no one as well with a first place finish in the 800-meters, Faure dominated the race with a scorching time of 1:50.22. Lance Loken contributed another runner up finish for the pokes with a second place finish in the 400-meters, clocking a time of 48.78.

“We saw a lot of season bests through each group today and a lot of kids were right around their personal bests. More importantly, almost every athlete that competed last week competed today and improved. That’s what you want to see are athletes getting better every week out,” Berryhill said.

On the woman’s side of the field Kerry White reigned supreme in the 800 meters with a time of 2:14.45. She also competed in the 1500 meters with a time of 4:33.42 landing her a second place finish. Senior Erin Kirby won the 400 meter hurdles with a time of 1:00.09. Audrey West and McKenzie Brogan also pulled their weight for the team by both placing second in their specific races.
