Cowgirl tennis wins big over Air Force

The Wyoming Cowgirls prevailed with a dominant victory of 6-1 over the Air Force Falcons on Saturday. The Cowgirls have improved to 12-5 overall and 4-0 in the Mountain West.

“From the warm-ups to executing and believing in the process and what it takes to win. From the top of the line-up to the bottom we executed to perfection,” head coach Dean Clower said in a Wyoming Athletics press release.

Wyoming began the day with two victories in doubles action to go up 1-0. Magdalena Stencel and Jessica Parizher opened up the day with a 6-2 victory against Lily Forlini and Mary Meyers. Dorottya Jonas and Silviya Zhelyazkova earned a 6-3 win over Chloe Forlini and Jocelle Rudico. Seniors Alma Espinosa and Christa Gecheva were up 5-4 against Tracy Landram and Natasha Rizvi but didn’t finish the match.

“The ladies were extremely professional this weekend in everything we did,” Clower said.

Nastya Tokareva dropped just one game in her straight set win 6-1 and 6-0 over Mary Meyers followed by Parizher with a 6-3, 6-4 victory over Landram to extend the Cowgirl lead to 3-0. Air Force earned its only point of the day at the number one position as Rizvi defeated Stencel, 7-5, 6-3. The Cowgirls sealed the victory with Gecheva beating Lily Forlini, 6-2, 6-2 at the number five spot. The final two Cowgirls in action were Jonas and Zhelyazkova. Jonas needed three sets in her win over Chloe Forlini, 6-3, 3-6, 7-5, while Zhelyazkova beat Rudico in two, 6-2, 6-2 to close out the day.

Wyoming will close out the regular season Saturday as it hosts the Colorado State Rams. The match is set for 4 p.m. MT at the UW Indoor Tennis Courts.
