Pop punk group from Denver, Head Injuries, will be visiting the University of Wyoming campus to perform alongside Some Draw Lines, Poor Me and Nixon’s The One. Head Injuries consists of four guys from Colorado who said that music allows them to travel, make great friends, have incredible experiences and make people feel something.
“Pop punk always keeps us young,” an email from the band stated. “Not many people can say all of that with what they choose to do with their lives.”
Head Injuries has officially been a band since October 2011, but two of the members had already been making music for a long time. Head Injuries said that one of their guitarists and vocalists, Zack Hill, had started a band when he was twelve years old and Jared Russell, the other guitarist and vocalist for the group, had joined shortly after.
Head Injuries has been able to record and release two EPs and a full-length album and just finished recording its sophomore album titled “Bail”.
Head Injuries wrote and recorded its Boogie Nights EP with Brandon Carlisle of Teenage Bottlerocket the same month they became an official band. Head Injuries recorded its debut album, “Self Titled,” at the Black In Bluhm studio in Denver with Chris Fogel.
Once Head Injuries was writing for its One Night Stand EP, the members had decided they wanted to switch things up. Head Injuries stated collectively in an email, The Panda Studios asked the band if it would like to go out to Fremont, California to record with Sam Pura.
“‘Bail’ was a different story,” the email from Head Injuries read. “The album is based on our lives here in Colorado, so it only made sense to stay at home and record at The Blasting Room in Fort Collins.”
Head Injuries had built a good relationship with Bill Stevenson and the members said they felt it was the right time to make their sophomore album happen.
“It was by far our most personal and educational recording session yet,” an email from Head Injuries read. The recording session churned out the album called “Bail.”
The band members said they believe each studio and record has been a new experience of its own. Head Injuries has also had the opportunities to tour and even make a music video for their song “Greatest Felony.” Last year Head Injuries went on their Jägermeistour which started in Denver and ended here in Laramie. On this tour the band visited West Coast cities including San Diego, Hollywood and Riverside, California.
Over years of touring Head Injuries has been able to share the stage with bands like Teenage Bottlerocket, Mixtapes, State Champs, The Almost, Red City Radio, Handguns, Descendents and Masked Intruder.
“Being able to share the stage with any band is always an honor,” the email from Head Injuries stated. “We love making friends and State Champs were no different, great dudes and a great band.” State Champs will be opening up for All Time Low this year on the Future Hearts Tour.
Head Injuries said that they are looking forward to playing in front of a new demographic at the University of Wyoming.
Head Injuries will be releasing their sophomore album this summer along with touring more and new music videos. They will be performing this Thursday in the Education Auditorium at 7 p.m.
