Derek Cooke Jr., senior forward for the UW men’s basketball team, was questioned by the Laramie Police Department on the night of Friday, April 10 following an altercation at a house party at Ninth St. & Custer St.
Kahle Collins, the other party in the altercation, said Cooke, “picked her up by grabbing underneath the arm pit area of her body and carried her into the front yard,” according to an LPD police report. Collins also said Cooke “grabbed her by her hair and drug her the distance from the porch to the fence in the front yard.”
In the same police report, Cooke said the host of the house party was trying to empty the residence when Collins threw two drinks in Cooke’s face, according to the police report. Cooke said after that he grabbed the female, but “couldn’t remember exactly how.”
According to the police report, “everybody started yelling and asking him what he did.”
Cooke said he left the party because “did not believe he did anything wrong.”
Laramie Police Officer James Pracheil later found Cooke “in the area of the 300 block of South First behind Coal Creek,” according to the police report.
Cooke is not facing any charges from the altercation, as Collins is not pressing charges against him.
The UW men’s basketball team has not commented on the incident. Senior guard Charles Hankerson Jr. and redshirt freshman guard Alan Herndon were both also listed in the police report as having provided information to the police regarding the incident.
