Matt Micheli recently became the chair of the Wyoming Republican Party. Micheli is the son of former state gubernatorial candidate and legislator Ron Micheli.

The Wyoming Republican party elected lawyer Matt Micheli as their new chairman last week.

The party met in Casper to hold elections on Saturday, April 11, and the results were announced two days later.

“I am humbled and honored to serve as the Republican Party state chair,” Micheli said in a press release. “I know that as Republicans, we will all work together to build a better Wyoming and a better America.”

Before being elected Micheli served as an attorney for a Denver based law firm, Holland and Hart, in their Cheyenne offices. He recently received the Petroleum Association of Wyoming’s Government Relations Committee 2015 MVP award.

His specialty with Holland and Hart was assisting clients in dealings with Bureau of Land Management (BLM) and Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), as well as navigating cases involving development on public lands.

“The Wyoming Republican Party made a great choice in electing Matt Micheli as the new State Chairman,” Gov. Matt Mead said. “I look forward to working with him to elect Republican candidates in the coming elections.”

Chris Smith, co-chairman of the party, said it was Micheli’s vision for the party that won him the election. Smith said his commitment to making the party a top priority left a deep impression on him.

“He has a solid vision of electing Republicans, training Republicans and recruiting Republicans,” Smith said.

The process of electing a new party chairman begins in election season in even-numbered years with the election of precinct committee members from every precinct, followed by county elections.

During odd-numbered years, those county members then elect three officers, who then vote for new party leadership. Each leadership term lasts two years.
