This past weekend the Wyoming’s men’s golf team finished up tournament play at the Mountain West championship on the Omni Tucson National – Catalina Course in Tucson, Arizona.

The team finished the three rounds of tournament play landing in 8th place. Wyoming tallied a three round score of 881, with a first round score of 295 and a second round score of 288.

“This is a young team and the pressure got to us a bit but we had a good solid finish,” UW head coach Joe Jensen said. “We finished in eighth place and I am certainly encouraged for the future of this team. We built a solid foundation this year and made some great progress so I am very pleased with that.”

Leading the team throughout the tournament was junior Kamrin Allen and freshman Glenn Workman who both tied for 19th place in the 55-man playing field. Allen was very consistent throughout the tournament with scores of 72, 73 and a last round score of 71. This consistency has paid off for Allen who earned his 11th top 25 finishes in his career here at Wyoming. Workman on the other hand earned his 3rd top 25-birth staying with Allen the entire tournament with scores of 72, 69 and a last round score of 75.

Hanging behind Allen and Workman was sophomore Ryan Wallen. Wallen ended in 40th place recording a first round score of 75 and 74 for his last two rounds. Freshman Drew McCullough wasn’t far behind Wallen falling into 48th place after three rounds with scores of 76, 72 and 79. Closing up for the Pokes was redshirt freshman Arron Lickteig. Lickteig wound up in the 53rd position tallying scores of 76, 77 and 78.

The Pokes will have a lot of work to do if they want to compete with the big dogs in the Mountain West Conference. Finishing first in team standings was San Diego State with a three round score of 835, 17 under par. The top individual ended up being UNLV’s Kurt Kitayama who finished with a 202, 11 under par.

Fortunately as head coach Joe Jenson said, the men’s golf team is very young. All of Wyoming’s golfers who made it to the Mountain West conference will be returning next year, giving the team the experience they need to have success in the Mountain West conference.
