If you’re like me, between the republican presidential debates you were frustrated by the amount of screen time that Donald Trump received.
Debates are supposed to give every candidate a chance to let the country know what their platform consists of instead of devolving into what sounds like a high school girls lunch table. Nevertheless, if you watch the debates really closely, you can see a shimmer of light out in the very corners of the lineup.
His name is Dr. Rand Paul and to me, he is the best choice for the future of this nation and this presidential race.
Rand takes stands typical of republicans on many issues like the second amendment, social security and the sanctity of life. However, he doesn’t really belong with the rest of the Republican Party candidates in regards to other issues and he is more of a libertarian.
He doesn’t care about weed and he doesn’t care about who you marry. What he cares about is limiting the amount of government interference in your life.
I have always said that more people are probably libertarians whether they realize it or not. Do you want the U.S. to be smarter with its money, stop fighting unnecessary wars and generally have the government leave you alone?
You just might be a libertarian. I highly encourage everyone to visit isidewith.com to figure out which political candidate you actually side with the best. If you have the patience, answer all possible questions instead of the base questions listed. This will give you the most accurate result.
I’m a big fan of Paul due to his hands-off approach to the people; he believes that people are responsible enough to run their own lives better than Washington bureaucrats can.
This is where he departs the most from the rest of the republicans. While most republicans tout the desire to have the government leave them alone, many have no problem with the government spying on them or invading foreign lands.
He stands up to the senseless wars that the U.S. is so fond of waging as well as stopping the bulk collection of American’s personal information. Even if that information might be used to stop terrorism, there is no evidence to support the NSA’s claims of successfully doing so.
Yet Rand Paul also stands above the rest in my eyes because he is a staunch supporter of term limits for politicians. This to me reveals that he really is a politician of the people, and is truly fighting for our best interests.
He is also in favor of auditing the fed, which, if you don’t know why that’s such a big deal, I highly suggest watching some YouTube videos on the subject. Rand Paul is for smaller government like all republicans, but he actually wants to follow through on this principle.
He believes in massive cuts in spending for all areas of the government, which will inevitably lead to a smaller government under Paul because he also believes in passing a balanced budget act. This would require every future federal budget submitted to be balanced.
Although many politicians like to say that they take a stand for what they believe in, few follow up on this. Rand Paul suspended his campaign for a few days so that he could return to the senate chambers to help prevent a last minute deal that would harm the social security system.
Many today see Rand Paul as the quirky outsider of the party and that he isn’t a practical candidate for the nomination. The thing is, nominations are based on popular support.
If the public rallied behind Rand Paul, he would become a contender instead of a sideshow.
I know that no politician is to be truly trusted, as they are more likely to use their power for what they want and not what you want. However, Rand Paul seems to represent the libertarian philosophy of “trying to take over the world, so that we can leave you alone.”
I’m not here to try to force a candidate on you- the media does that enough as it is. I am here to encourage you to get educated, understand the issues and figure out who represents you the best.
Don’t just go along with whichever candidate the media tells you represents you the best, do your own research. As members of the American public, it is your duty to be an informed voter and if you don’t want to become an educated voter, you have no business voting.
