1. New solar infrastructure on campus-
In the Ford lot on the University of Wyoming Campus a new solar photovoltaic (PV) array has been installed to save power costs and promote sustainability. Most of the electricity produced powers the UW indoor practice facility. According the UW news the product is estimated to avoid 51.7 tons of carbon dioxide emissions per year. The Blue Sky Community Fund made the installation possible.

2. Holiday Market this week
This Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. the main floor of the union will be filled with over 70 vendors selling holiday products and gifts. The event is free and open to the public. UW employees are granted two hours of release time to attend the holiday market. Attendees can expect holiday music, refreshments, a raffle door prize and lots of Christmas cheer. 3. Festival of trees
To celebrate the holiday season the University of Wyoming art museum will host the “Festival of Trees” on Thursday from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Refreshments and holiday music will be provided at the event. Additionally the art museum will host other holiday events, including a silent auction that will begin on Friday at 10 p.m. and will end on Saturday at 2:30 p.m. All proceeds will go to the museum’s community programs including Shelton classes and art camps. To end the week of celebration Santa Clause will be present at the art museum on Saturday from 10:30 a.m.to 3 p.m. For more information contact the UW art museum.

4. Laramie’s rodeo queen competes for national title
Laramie’s hometown sweetheart Laurel Austin heads to Las Vegas to compete for the title of Miss Rodeo America. Laurel Austin is the former Miss Laramie Jubilee Days and Miss Albany County Farm Bureau. Laurel will compete in several challenging components in the competition, including horsemanship, public speaking and more. The Miss Rodeo pageant is scheduled to begin this week, at the MGM Grand Hotel on Las Vegas Boulevard.

5. Holiday parade and tree lighting
Downtown Laramie will be holding the annual tree lighting ceremony and holiday parade on Friday at 5:30 p.m. The tree lighting will take place at the 1st street Plaza. The parade will begin at 6 p.m. starting on 2nd Street and continuing south. The parade will then make a right on University street, where it will continue to 1st street, make a left on Garfield before circling back to the Boot Barn. This year’s theme is Christmas on the Plains.
