UW competes in RecycleMania
RecycleMania is a collegiate recycling competition managed by keep America Beautiful. Colleges across America and Canada report the amount of recycling and trash collected each week. The competition runs through April. The winners are ranked on who recycles most on a capital basis. Last year UW collected more than 150,000 pounds of recyclables.
Marijuana bust
On Saturday Wyoming Highway patrol troopers seized about 292 pounds of marijuana. A trooper stopped a rental truck speeding eastbound I-80. A drug sniffing K-9 alerted the officer to the presence of a controlled substance in a couch in the back of the truck. Troopers found controlled substances in the couch and other furniture. With the assistance of the Wyoming Division of Criminal Investigation, troopers arrested Jia Jun Yu, 41, of Brooklyn, New York and Kwok Lun Chow, 48, of San Francisco on felony charges.
Free Chantix prescription
The Wyoming Quit Tobacco program is offering a three-month free Chantix prescription to those who apply before June 30. Chantix is a supplement to assist the cessation of smoking.
“We’ve offered financial support for Chantix for quite some time, but here for awhile we’re going to offer that prescription cost for free,” Wyoming Department of Health Spokeswoman Kim Deti told LaramieLive.

Bridget Burke named director of UW American Heritage Center
One of the nation’s leading storehouses of manuscript collections has a new director. Bridget Burke comes to UW as the dean of libraries at the North Dakota State University.
“Our success is gauged not only by the metrics of what we hold (in collections), but by the conversations we prompt, the stories we elicit and how we model ways to think about the past and live in the present,” Burke told UW news.
She will begin the position on July 1.
