Community college tuition may increase

The Wyoming Community College commission is considering changing the tuition policy for every community college in the state of Wyoming. The change would affect all seven community colleges in the state. The commission will likely not make changes in the policy until this upcoming fall semester.

Walking tips

The City of Laramie recently released tips for walking safely in the wintertime. The City of Laramie hopes residents will read these tips and avoid injury. Some of the tips include giving oneself sufficient time, on stairs use hand railings, be sure with each step to plant feet firmly, look out for black ice, bend knees while walking to increase balance and traction and being prepared to fall. Man killed in avalanche

A 39-year-old man from North Dakota died in an avalanche in Northern Wyoming Friday. The Sheridan County Coroner’s Office identified the victim as Levi Robert Hammond. The avalanche occurred just after noon. The man was snowmobiling at the time of the accident.

Building catches on fire in Cheyenne

Firefighting crews were called to 3500 block of Cheyenne street at 6:30 a.m. Friday, in response to a commercial structure fire. When firefighters arrived to the scene they encountered heavy smoked and flames coming from the structure. Crews had the fire under control in about 10 minutes and no one was injured in the incident. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.

Lincoln rest area reopens

The summit rest area on I-80 between Laramie and Cheyenne has reopened. The rest area was closed Jan. 27 when the previous caretaker suddenly quit. The department is still working to hire a full time caretaker. WYDOT closed the rest area to keep it sanitary without the regular maintenance caretaker.
