UW wrapped by competition over the weekend, hosting a nine-team tournament on Saturday in the Uniwyo Sports Complex and the Arena Auditorium, and then traveled down to Denver to take on Denver University.

The tournament teams only played two sets as opposed to the typical five, for brevity reasons.

The Cowgirls opened up their day of competition this weekend with a close match against Metro State University. During the first set, the Cowgirls struggled to find their rhythm early on, but were able to find their stride through the middle of the match. They extended their lead to a max of seven and held that lead through the finish with a final score of 25-18.

Similar issues to the first set plagued the Cowgirls who consistently trailed by three or four points the beginning of the second set. But the Cowgirls again were able to fight their way back and make the final half of the match incredibly close. They were not quite able to finish, and lost the second set 24-26.

In their second game the Cowgirls took on the Western Nebraska Community College Cougars. Throughout the first set the Cowgirls maintained a consistent two to three point lead. But towards the end the Cowgirls ran away with the set and went up by eight points for a final score of 25-17.

The second set, the Cowgirls trailed by three to four points for most of the match, at 15-11 the Cowgirls took a timeout and were able to rally to bring the game to 16-15. The rest of the set was a battle with the Cowgirls edging out a win at 25-23.

For their final match of the day, the Cowgirls took on Casper College and secured a sweep. The Cowgirls dominated the first set and held Casper to only 10 points. Kayla Slofkiss’ serve greatly helped in this effort and she went on a tear of more than five unanswered points. The Cowgirls led for most of the second set and secured their final win with a score of 25-20.

The Cowgirls came away from Denver with a tie against DU of 2-2. Only four sets were played due to NCAA rules regarding offseason competition.

This match concludes the Cowgirl’s spring season competitions, and they will resume in the fall for the regular season.
