Brandon Joseph Hamilton was convicted of felony burglary of a WyoTech dorm.
Hamilton received five to eight years in state penitentiary and was order to pay $5,000 in restitution He also received a recommendation of boot camp upon his release, according to court documents.
On Sept. 30, 2016 the victim called police saying that two items had been stolen form his residence. The items missing where a Mavado wristwatch originally purchased for $796 as well as a14 karat gold bracelet costing $4829, according to court documents.
WyoTech security staff informed the police they had footage of a Hamilton near the victim’s room. WyoTech staff recognized Hamilton as a student that was not allowed in the dorm due to previous criminal activity, according to court documents.
Hamilton sold the bracelet to a pawn shop the same day the items where stolen. Hamilton claimed he was the sole owner of the bracelet and received $1000 in cash for the item, according to court documents
Police then executed a search warrant of Hamilton’s residence but where not able to locate the wristwatch. Upon further investigation police found that the day of the burglary a separate pawnshop received a call from Hamilton’s phone number from a male asking if they would be interested in purchasing a Movado wristwatch. The pawnshop informed Hamilton that it does not purchase wristwatches, according to court documents.
Man found guilty of possession
Charles James Reno was charged with two counts of felony possession of a controlled substance and received a split sentence of one year in an Albany County Detention Center.
Reno was arrested after a search of his car uncovered just under ten ounces of marijuana in plant form, an empty syringe and two spoons with suspected heroin residue. The officer searched Reno’s car after smelling the odor of marijuana coming from within Reno’s vehicle during a traffic stop. Reno was stopped due to expired registration, according to court documents.
Further inspection of the vehicle revealed a compartment behind the stereo, where police discovered methamphetamine in crystalline from, weighing about ten and a half grams in addition to one and a half grams of black tar heroin, according to court documents.
