Pokes set personal bests at CU Invite

The Cowboys and Cowgirls track and field teams competed in the CU Invitational this past Saturday in Boulder, Colorado.

Wyoming jumper Scott Carter stole the show with a new outdoor personal record with a long jump of 24 feet, 1.75 inches, which was good enough for a first place finish. Carter also competed in the 110-meter hurdles, placing fourth with a time of 14.50.

“He’s (Carter) getting better and better,” UW head coach Bryan Berryhill. “We could put him in any event and he would love to get out there and compete. He’s the ultimate competitor, and it shows in the results he’s putting out.”

Hurdler Jordan Charles ran along side Carter in 110-hurdles, finishing second overall and first against collegiate hurdlers with a time of 13.97.

Jumper Bobby Wingeleth finished fourth in the long jump, marking at 22-11, while teammate Kyle Alexander finished sixth at 22-1.

Sprinter Jace Marx ran a personal best of 21.68 seconds in the men’s 200-meter dash to place fourth. Kevin Blackett clocked a 49.22 in the 400-meters, good enough for sixth place.

In the women’s 100-meter hurdles, Mikalah Skates ran a season-best 14.27 to go home with fifth place.

Sprinters Jordan Edmonds and Melina Harris both ran personal bests in their events on Saturday. Edmonds took third place in the 200-meters with a time of 24.85, while Harris ran a 55.82 in the 400-meters, also placing third.

Thrower Hannah Carr took home fifth place for the Cowgirls in the shot put, marking at 45 feet 9 inches.

“It was a solid weekend for us,” Berryhill said. “We did train pretty hard this week looking forward to the (Pacific Coast Intercollegiate) this next week, so I thought the kids performed well on tired legs.”

The Pokes will compete in Long Beach, California this Thursday in the Pacific Coast Intercollegiate and will finish the weekend at Utah State for the Mark Faldmo Invite on Friday and Saturday.
