The University of Wyoming Club Baseball team split it’s four game series with the University of Colorado on April 7-8 in Boulder, Colorado. The Pokes won one game each day.
The Buffs struck first in game one, scoring on a wild pitch in the third inning to take a 1-0 lead. They extended that lead to 5-1 in the fourth before securing a 7-3 victory in game one.
“The team played well,” junior second baseman Landon Lybeck said. “There are still things we need to improve on, but overall I think the team played well this weekend.”
In game two the Pokes led 4-2 after three innings and then pushed that lead to 8-3 headed into the bottom of the sixth inning. After an error and two walks loaded the bases, the Buffs hit a grand slam to come within one, before tying the game shortly after. A wild pitch scored one for the Cowboys in the bottom of the seventh and that was enough to take home a 9-8 victory in game two.
On the final day of the two-day series, the Pokes found themselves behind 3-2 before the offense erupted for an 11-7 victory in game three.
In the final game of the series, CU’s Dan Harte hit his third home run of the series and pushed across his 10th RBI as the Buffs batted around the lineup and scored five runs in the inning to hold a 6-1 lead after three.
Wyoming’s bats woke up in the fourth scoring five, but CU’s offense wouldn’t go away quietly, putting up another 10 runs in the bottom of the fourth. The ten run rule was in effect as the Buffs mercy ruled the Pokes 18-8 to split the series.
The Pokes will be back in action against Metro State on April 15 at Cowboy Field in Laramie.
