The University of Wyoming Track and Field teams competed at the Jack Christiansen Invite last Saturday in Fort Collins, Colorado. The men’s side took third overall with 101.5 points while the women also finished third with 127 points.
“I thought it was a solid day,” head coach Bryan Berryhill said. “The energy was there. We saw a lot of solid performances across the board in all event areas. I think we took another step forward to being a better team before the conference championships.”
The Cowboys and Cowgirls won six events this past weekend, led by senior Jordan Charles, who won the 100 meters and the 110-meter hurdles in the meet.
Charles won the 100 meters with a time of 10.77 and clocked a 14.09 to win the 110-hurdles. Teammate Jace Marx placed third in the 100-meters with a 10.80.
Marx was also a member of the first place UW men’s 4×400-meter relay team that posted a 3:11.81, fourth all-time for Wyoming.
The Cowboy’s 4×100-meter rely were also victorious on Saturday, finishing with a 41.14.
Cowgirl Ja’la Henderson took first in the long jump with a mark of 18 feet, 10.75 inches. Teammate Jerayah Davis finished right behind Henderson, marking an 18-8.5 for second place.
Jumper Bobby Wingeleth took runner–up in the men’s long jump for the Cowboy’s with a leap of 22-8.5.
In the distance events, Cowgirl Solana Quistorff took home second in the 1,500 meters, crossing the finish line with a 4:47.48. Calum Kepler placed third in the men’s 800 meters, clocking a 1:53.19. Kerry White took home top honors for the Cowgirls in the 800 meters with a time of 2:11.18.
Sam Kirkeide finished runner-up in the men’s 200 meters with a time of 21.79. Teammate Hap Frketich also took home second place in the javelin throw with a toss of 191 feet, 2 inches.
Cowgirl Emelda Malm-Annan took runner-up in the women’s hammer throw, continuing her season success with a throw of 190-11. Hannah Carr also took runner-up in the women’s discus for UW, marking at 146-3. Carr also took third in the shot put with a toss of 43-1.75.
In the men’s shot put, Damon Unland placed third for the Cowboy’s with a mark of 186-1. He also took third in the discus, throwing 165-4.
UW will host its one-and-only outdoor meet this Friday for the 7220 Invite at the Louis S. Madrid Sports Complex. The events will begin at 11 a.m.
