Nineteen-year-old Cameron M. Campbell was recently taken into custody in a domestic strangulation case filed by the Laramie Police Department.
A press release was put out on Oct. 11 and stated as a headline “Laramie Man Arrested for Strangulation of a Household Member.”
The dispute took place on Oct. 6 at noon on the 2000 block of Newton where police officers arrived to arrest Campbell on the charges of Strangulation of a Household Member.
According to the 2011 Wyoming Statutes 6-2-509: “(a) A person is guilty of strangulation of a household member if he intentionally and knowingly or recklessly causes or attempts to cause bodily injury to a household member by impeding the normal breathing or circulation of blood.”
No details have been released about how or why the domestic dispute occurred but Campbell was arrested as a result of the police investigation that followed the dispute.
Strangulation is defined as, “(i) Applying pressure on the throat of neck of the household member; or (ii) Blocking the nose and mouth of the household member.” (WS 6-2-509)
Law also states that a charge of Strangulation of a Household Member is a felony and is punishable by imprisonment for no more than five years.
It is unclear how long Campbell was held in custody or if charges are being followed but the Laramie Police Department press release also stated, “Campbell was released from the Albany County Detention Center after posting a $7,500 signature bond.”
Laramie Police Department Lieutenant Gwen Smith said the investigation is ongoing.
