The University of Wyoming has had many club sports in action recently. Here is an update on what some of the teams have been up to recently.
Men’s Rugby
The Men’s Wyoming Rugby team lost to Air Force Academy this past weekend in Colorado Springs, Colorado. The final score was Wyoming 18-69 Air Force.
Colton Wostenburg made two penalty kicks during the match for Wyoming. Matthew Roche and Jeff Kohler each scored a try for the team along with Wostenburg adding a conversion to the score.
The team is now through the hardest part of their season and hope to see more success in the last few games coming up.
The team is back in action on Oct. 21 when they will take on Texas Tech University.
Women’s Rugby
The Women’s Rugby team played at home this past weekend and were able to come away with a victory against the University of Northern Colorado. Wyoming won by a score of 83-17.
The tries for Wyoming were scored by Bella Pope, Savannah Hook, Kelsi DeRosier and Sara Griffith.
This was the final league game for the Cowgirls. The Only match left that is currently scheduled is on Oct. 27 against their alumni.
Women’s Club Volleyball
Following a tournament victory the previous weekend, the Club Volleyball team did not do as well this past weekend at the tournament hosted at Colorado State University.
In the first pool play game, Wyoming faced Colorado University-Bolder-A. They would lose the match 1-2 in sets with scores of 18-25, 25-23 and 15-7.
In the next pool play game was against Colorado University-Denver. Wyoming won the match 2-0 in sets and scores of 25-23 and 25-14.
In the final pool play game, Wyoming would go on to beat the University of Colorado-Colorado Springs winning the sets by a score of 2-1. The scores of the sets were 25-16, 21-25 and 15-6.
In bracket play, Wyoming would lose in the first round to CSU-B 1-2 in sets. The set scores were 23-25, 25-17, and 13-15.
Wyoming would end fifth in the tournament out of 11 teams. Not a terrible finish but after the previous week not where they wanted to finish.
Men’s Hockey
The Wyoming Men’s Hockey club team took on the University of Northern Colorado at 7 p.m. on Oct. 14 at the Laramie Ice and Event Center.
UNC would end up beating Wyoming by a Score of 5-2.
In the first period, Wyoming would gain a two-goal lead thanks to goals by Matthew Loudagin (3:11) and Alec Macdougall (5:58). Both were assisted by Dan Franks.
UNC would respond with a goal at 9:26 in the first period. Liam Mckee would score the goal with an assist by Paul Norris.
The second period would be all UNC. All three goals in the period would be score by UNC. The first goal was scored at 2:08 by Brad Pershing with the assist by Cade Boreing. At 11:23 Truman Gonzales scored a goal thanks to assists by Brantt Heble and Levi Weber. In under a minute UNC would score again at 12:04. Jayson Franceschini scored the goal off the assist by Heble.
The third period would see only one goal at 5:11 by Mckee. The goal was unassisted.
Wyoming goalie Samuel Mallory saw 39 shots come his way and was able to save 34 of them.
UNC goalie Ashton Opperman had 28 shots come his way, saving 26 of them.
Wyoming will be back in action 7 p.m. Oct. 20 at the Laramie Ice and Events Center for Border War match-up on the ice.
Shot Gun Team
Two weeks ago the team took place in the North Platt Prairie Circuit Classic in Nebraska.
The team was able to place third in both Double Trap and 5-stand.
Logan Bankard was able to earn a spot on the All-Conference Team also.
