Murder Mystery Puzzle Escape Room to raise money to fund children with cancer in Ecuador hosted by Rotaract at the University of Wyoming.
The Murder Mystery Puzzle Escape Room will take place over three days, Oct. 26 to Oct. 28, in Business Room 008.
The Rotaract Club is a subsidiary group of Rotary International. It is a service based club focusing in volunteering and community service. They offer opportunities to connect across the globe with other Rotaract Clubs.
“Our main goal is to provide service to communities and people around the world,” Rotaract Club President, Taury Carr said.
Upon entering the room, groups will be faced with the fictitious death of the host of a Halloween party. In observation of the masking tape body outline on the floor, the team will have thirty minutes to solve who killed the host.
To do so, they must search the room to find clues that point to the murderer. The clues or puzzles can be an assimilation of various elements such as objects or even written notes. There will be a moderator in the room every time a team participates.
“If you get stuck we have one hint. The moderator in the room will give you one hint as to what your next clue will be,” committee co-chair, Hannah Clark said.
Once a team is able to solve this series of puzzles and identify the murderer, they will be able to escape the room.
After all this clue sleuthing, the team that solves the mystery the fastest will receive a prize from various places around Laramie such as food items or coffee shops.
“It’s spooky themed, but not scary in anyway,” committee co-chair, Amanda Dinsmore said.
It is perfect for anyone who would like to participate in a Halloween event.
“The cool thing about this event is that it doesn’t take a lot of time. So, there’s other Halloween activities going on, obviously, but you sign up and you come for thirty minutes,” Carr said. “You can go to this and go to other activities going on. Also, we’re doing it for three days so the time that you go is up to you as there is lots of time slots.”
Those wanting to participate must go online to http://goo.gl/mYbQvJ. After finishing a short survey, there will be a link to a Doodle Poll where you sign up for a time slot.
The Rotaract is accepting donations for participation in this event. The suggested donation is 20 dollars per group of five people, or 4 dollars per person. The money gathered from this event will go toward supporting children in Ecuador who are battling cancer.
“One of the members in our club is from Ecuador. He’s part of the Rotaract Club here and a Rotaract Club down there,” Carr said. “He works very closely with an organization that helps kids with cancer in Ecuador. He presented us the opportunity to help out his club with a project so the funds that we make from this will be going towards a project that will assist kids down there.”
This is a great, time efficient and not-too-scary event for anyone to participate in and the funds from the donations go to a cause that can always use more funding. If you are interested in joining the Rotaract Club they meet bi-weekly on Mondays at 7:10 p.m. in the senate chamber of the upstairs of the Union.
