‘Be ready to strut your stuff’

The annually celebrated Halloween party created by the Role for Initiative is almost here.

The event will be held Sunday from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. in the Gardens at Wyoming Union.

“This event is our annual Halloween Party,” the president of the club, Hailee Shaye Starr said.

Starr and her team will be tabling in the union from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday to bring attention to the event and answer questions.

“We need people to spread the word about our club’s event,” Starr said. “It is shaped like our weekly club meetings, but we have included some special events to both get into the Halloween spirit as well as to provide new players a chance to make the most of their experience.”

The event includes a costume contest with prizes for first, second and third places.

“One Shot Dungeons and Dragons sessions for new and experienced players, Board Games for anyone and free Popcorn,” she said.

One of prizes is a gift certificate for tokens to be used on arcade games at 8 Bytes Game Café.

“So, bring your best costumes and be ready to strut your stuff,” Starr said. “Our One-Shot Dungeons and Dragons sessions are great for people who want to experience the game just once or if they are interested in learning. Our Sessions include characters that the players may use so they don’t need to make their own.”

Role for Initiative is a tabletop gaming club and a recognized RSO at the university. It is a Dungeons and Dragons (D&D) umbrella group.

The group was founded to get individuals, who want to play D&D characters, involved with individuals who want to Dungeon Master. The club also gets people who want to play games with others together.

The members meet every Sunday from 4-8 p.m. in the Union Gardens.

According to the organization’s official website, the club has several purposes, such as, to increase awareness of students wanting to get involved with tabletop games, to foster a positive social environment by encouraging participation from anyone willing to play, to develop and empower student leaders and to build a safe, inclusive, and respectful community.

Starr decided to re-organize the event this year, due to its high success of last year. She said the purpose is to attract a larger group of students to join their RSO.

“Table top games such as Dungeons and Dragons can be enjoyed by anybody, not just a select niche of people,” said Starr. “We organized this event to potential new members, so we added some aspects that newer players will find easy to jump in and enjoy.”

She said, “We have the opportunities for people to join in on many longer Dungeons and Dragons Campaigns as well as a board game of the week, that is fast paced and is easy for anyone to jump in on the fun. You can look into any of our future meetings and events on either our official UW Connect page or our Facebook page.”

Finally, Starr wants to invite everyone to the party.

“Everybody is welcome to attend our party, come have some fun and get out of your comfort zone, if this type of event is not a typical event you would go to,” Starr said.
