It’s happening again! Nightmare on Ivinson 2: Pistol Pete’s Revenge events are about to commence in spooky action.
Friday is full of an array of free events on the first night of Halloween weekend 2017. The night’s attractions will include costume and cookie-decorating contests, escape rooms, ghost hunts and a performance by Aiden Sinclair.
Sinclair, a professional magician who has appeared on “America’s Got Talent” and “Penn and Teller: Fool Us,” is a regular feature of the Stanley Hotel in Estes Park, Colorado.
“The Rocky Horror Picture Show” will also be screened at midnight for those who are 18 or older.
Last year’s event was a well-attended success, and the staff of 7220 Entertainment, the organization behind the University’s main events and activities, are expecting similar results for the sequel.
“We had about a thousand attendees last year,” Late Night Events Coordinator, Makenna Shaw said.
While everything is already covered by funds from student fees, the escape room and ghost hunts are ticketed to manage group sizes throughout the night.
These events, along with the costume contests, are for students only.
“It’s more of an organizational thing so that we don’t have, no one coming for the first couple events and then everyone trying to get in the last one,” Shaw said. “People can pick what they want ahead of time and know when they need to be here.”
Tickets can be obtained at the Union information desk, while supplies last, and are free with a WyoOne ID. So far there are no shortages, but that could change the closer the event commencement gets.
The ticketed activities have several timeslot options, so early birds have more freedom to choose a time that’s more suited to their own plans. Students can view a schedule of events themselves on the Wyoming Union Facebook page.
“I would recommend that people get Ghost Hunts as soon as possible, those usually tend to sell out faster,” Shaw said.
Ten p.m., 11 p.m. and midnight the Denver Ghost Hunters will conduct ghost hunts in Knight Hall, which is rumored to have been built upon the site of a burial ground.
Escape Rooms, by Neon Entertainment, will occur throughout the night, challenging students in groups of 10 to solve tricky puzzles before time runs out. You might need to discover the cure for a deadly infection, figure out the four-digit code to deactivate a bomb or demonstrate your skills at Pigwarts School of Wizardry.
Two costume contests will take place starting at 11:45—one for general costumes and another featuring costumes from the cult classic film “The Rocky Horror Picture Show.”
Aiden Sinclair’s show begins at 9:30 p.m. and is expected to last until 11 p.m.
Cookie decorating begins at 9 p.m. and lasts until supplies run out, and a good old photo booth will also be running from 10-12.
Entertainment 7220 is in its second year as a brand here at the University of Wyoming after various other activities groups were consolidated into one entity.
“It was made into 7220 just so we could be under one umbrella and make it easier to promote all our events,” event coordinator, Vanessa Alvarez said.
The new organization has also been behind bringing big-name performers such as Lindsey Stirling and Kristian Nairn to campus, as well as special early-release showings of movies such as “Captain America: Civil War” and “Rogue One.”
