University of Wyoming Cowgirls defeat the Boise State Broncos in four seat by scores of 19-25, 25-21, 27-29, and 19-25.
Wyoming had a balance offensive attack with three Cowgirls posting double digit kills. Emily Lewis Lead the way with 14 kills followed by Jackie McBride with 13 kills and Tara Traphagan added 12 more kills. Following the game Head Coach Chad Callihan said “The offense of balance was nice. I just think we are beginning to become a tough team to defend.”
Marissa Harmon had a game high 45 assists and also had 15 digs. Reid Copland added 6 kills and 7 blocks to help the Cowgirls defensively. Madi Fields had a game high 18 digs in the match.
Boise State was led by Sierra Nobley who had a game high 17 kills and Jaymee-Lee Bulda who had 36 assists. Maddi Osburn had 15 digs to help out defensively.
Set 1
Wyoming would take the first set by a score of 19-25. Wyoming would jump out to a 4-8 lead but Boise State would tie the game back up at 10. From there the Cowgirls would go on a 10-3 run putting the score to 13-20. Boise would try to mount a comeback but Wyoming would end the set at 19-25
Set 2
Wyoming would drop the second set to Boise by a score of 25-21. Boise would gain a 8-7 lead and never look back. Cowgirls would remain within a few points but would never be able to stage a long enough run to regain the lead.
Set 3
Wyoming would take a 5-6 lead and would maintain a small lead through most of the set. Boise State would end up tying the game at 23. Boise State would take a one point lead four different times but Wyoming was able to hold out and win the set 27-29.
“The stress would have probably consumed them (in the first few weeks of the season) and now I think that it is not consuming them. I think now they are enjoying it and relish these big moments.” Said Callihan.
Set 4
Wyoming was able to gain a couple point lead and maintain it throughout the set. Boise State would go on some small runs but would never overtake the Cowgirls. Wyoming would win the final set 19-25.
“Even that fourth set we built a decent lead but it never felt comfortable” said Callihan.
Wyoming improves to 14-11 (9-4 MWC_ on the season and maintains their second place ranking in the conference. The Cowgirls are back in actions against Utah State at 1 p.m. on Saturday Nov, 4 in Laramie at the UniWyo Sports Complex.
