The University of Wyoming’s Men’s Cowboy Basketball took on the University of Regis Rangers at 8:30 p.m. on Nov. 4, for their first exhibition match of the season.
The Cowboys came on top after a tough battle against the Rangers with a score of 75-65 securing their first win of the season.
The Cowboy’s head coach, Allen Edwards had a 23-15 overall record from last season, Wyoming set a school record in points with (2,961) and assists with (568).
The Rangers head coach, Brady Bergenson finished last season with a 20-9 overall record.
The Cowboys secured another victory within the series against the Rangers making the overall record 9-2 which started in 1928.
Wyoming faced a tough opponent for their first game of the season battling for the lead through the entirety of the 2nd half of the game.
The Cowboys led the first half of the game by 16 points with the score of 40-24 going into the second half where the Rangers outscored the Cowboys 41-35 making the overall score 75-65 in favor of Wyoming
The Rangers efforts allowed for them to close within 10 points of the Cowboys trailing from a 54-35 score deficit early in the second half of play.
The Cowboys led in both field goal made-attempts with 25-53 (47.2 %) and three point made-attempts with 6-21 (28.6 %).
The Rangers trailed in both field goal made-attempts with 23-65 (35.4 %) and three point made-attempts with 4-20 (20.0 %).
The length of the match was played evenly through possessions with both teams seeing 84 ball possessions.
Wyoming was led by senior guard, Alexander Aka Gorski with 20 points with assist from his teammates; redshirt junior guard Nyaires Redding with 14 points with 10/10 from the free throw line, sophomore Andrew Moemeka with seven rebounds and six points, freshman Hunter Maldonado with 12 points, and Hayden Dalton with 10 points.
The Rangers were led by senior forward Dexter Sienko with 15 points followed by Ty Mcgee with 13 points, Christian Little with 12 points and Troy Anderson with seven points.
The University of Wyoming will host their first regular season game next Friday, Nov. 10, at 7 p.m. against Chattanooga in the Arena- Auditorium.
