The University of Wyoming Cowgirls Basketball team hosted the Montana Lady Griz at the arena-auditorium on Monday, Nov. 13, at 6:30 p.m.
The Wyoming Cowgirls bested the Lady Griz in a well-fought battle ending in a score of 67-62 giving Wyoming their second win of the season.
The fast-paced back and forth play from both teams caused the hometown crowd to stand on the edge of their seats for the majority of the game.
There were a substantial amount of turnovers by both teams, the Cowgirls with 13 TO’s and the Lady Griz with only eight turnovers.
Both teams were able to stay consistently close to each other in regards to points scored per quarter; 1st quarter: M9-W12, 2nd quarter: W14-M16, third quarter: M16-W18, 4th quarter: M21-W23. Montana: M and Wyoming: W
Wyoming was able to capitalize on their chances to the basket with; 17-40 (42.5 percent) FG attempts made, 6-17 (35.3 percent) FG3 attempts made, and 27-33 (81.8 percent) FT attempts made.
Montana fell short on their overall performance with; 23-58 (39.7%) FG attempts made, just 3-19 (15.8 percent) FG3 attempts made, and 13-16 (81.3 percent) FT attempts made.
The Cowgirls prove to be dominant at the three-point line averaging 35-40 percent per game against their opponents.
The Cowgirl’s win can be credited to the dominating force of senior Liv Roberts with 15 points, junior Bailee Cotton with 11 points, junior Clara Tapia with 10 points, junior Sladjana Rakovic with 10 points, senior Natalie Baker with eight points, and junior Marta Gomez with seven points.
The leading scorers that can be credited for their efforts are; Sierra Anderson with 14 points, Madi Schoening with 14 points, Mckenzie Johnston with 11 points, Jace Henderson with 10 points, and Sophia Stiles with six points.
The Wyoming Cowgirls will be on the road for their next game where they will meet the Denver Pioneers in Colorado on Thursday, Nov. 16, at 7 p.m.
