Much like the Whos in Dr. Suess’ “How the Grinch Stole Christmas,” the City of Laramie welcomed Christmas with the annual Christmas parade on Friday.
The glee filled march started at the corner of 2nd and Fremont street and included 30 floats harboring this year’s theme of “Christmas in Whoville.”
While many of the participants took this theme to heart, featuring characters like Cindy Lou Who and the Grinch, others portrayed their own idea of Christmas.
One group from Bella Mira Cosplay had members dressed up as other well-known characters including Pikachu, Sleeping Beauty, Queen Elsa from “Frozen” and the infamous villain, Harley Quinn.
Whatever the floats theme, the excitement of those attending was enough to make anyone’s heart grow an extra two sizes.
One young man, Evan accompanied by Linda Colbo, said he was excited to see the Grinch and to get candy.
“This is our first time and we’re excited,” Colbo said.
Linford Elementary School had their first debut in the Christmas parade. Their float was full of excited students singing along to music played on the spot by a teacher in the school.
Many towns will have their own Christmas parades and traditions, and each town will have something that makes it special.
“I think we have a hometown feeling, and we see a lot of family and friends that we know,” long time Laramie resident, Clinton Swierczek said.
The festive march also included a showing of the City’s decorated fire engines, and finally, Santa Claus on a float, bringing an end to the parade and a beginning to the holiday season.
