Sunday, Jan. 28, the University of Wyoming Cowgirls tennis team took on the Northern Colorado Bears, in their first home match since the Wyoming invite last October. With Conference play on its way this was an important match for the Cowgirls.
This years team is quite young with only one senior in Magdalena Stencel, and one junior in Elissa Koonik.
The day started out with doubles play. The first of these doubles games to finish was between Carrigan Blanchard and Sabrina Chhabra of UNC, and Stencel and Ana Tkachenko of Wyoming. The Wyoming doubles team swept the Bears in six games. The other two matches were a lot closer with the Bears taking one 6-5, and the Cowgirls taking the other 7-5.
This was followed by singles play. Stencel also won two out of her three singles games on the day. Tessa van Der Ploeg won both her singles for Wyoming. As did Tkachenko, Koonik and Milka Genkova. Myiah Scott of Wyoming was 1-1.
Wyoming won the event with a final score of 6-1. The next match for the Cowgirls is friday February 16, in Lincoln Nebraska against the University of Nebraska Cornhuskers.
