Fraternity Pi Kappa Alpha, aka PIKE, will attempt to paint a new image of Greek life on the UW campus with their “Bob Ross Night.”
This will be the first “Bob Ross Night” put on by PIKE. It’s a recruitment event to attract new members into the fraternity starting at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
“We’re hoping to attract genuine good people,” Recruitment Chairman Cullen Williams said. “Any gentleman who is a full-time undergrad is welcome. The event is free to everyone, so even if he isn’t sure about Greek life, he can come have fun.”
The event will feature a guided painting, led by “Bob Ross” (a PIKE member in costume.) There will be other Bob Ross themed activities, such as Bob Ross board games.
“We really want to set ourselves apart and hopefully not attract the wrong kind of people with an event that’s fun, exciting, and also pretty unique,” Williams said.
The Pi Kappa Alpha Fraternity stands on four pillars that represent the types of members they’re hoping to recruit: scholars, leaders, athletes, and gentlemen. Their members strive to be the best they can be and excel in whatever area they are interested in.
“I’m hoping that we can get more people interested in our fraternity, because it’s a great opportunity,” Chief Financial Officer Derrik Conard said. “PIKE takes people who are essentially strangers and brings them together until all members feel like brothers to each other.”
PIKE is a social fraternity and provides many opportunities for their members to bond with each other as well as contribute to their community. They are the youngest fraternity on campus, but look forward to expanding their values with unique recruitment events this spring.
“A lot of people don’t typically like to show up to art events because they feel pressure to perform,” PIKE member, Connor Wetzel said. “This ‘Bob Ross Night’ will be laid back and will hopefully get our guys and some of the new guys to break out of their shells and have a good time.”
Pi Kappa Alpha holds their members to a higher standard, and seek to make a difference on campus. There will also be a “Winter Pentathlon” put on by PIKE this Friday at 6 p.m. This event will also be recruitment centered.
