The Portland-born band, Dirty Revival, has been actively touring in support of their self-titled debut album that was released in September of 2015.
7220 Entertainment will be hosting the popular band, Dirty Revival, at 8 p.m. on Wednesday, February 7 in The Union Gardens.
“It is a pretty exciting event and we are thrilled to have them here,” Katie Burnworth, CAC senior office assistant, said.
Dirty Revival is a dynamic influential group lead by Sarah Clarke. The group of seven derives their sound from funk and soul inspired icons.
“Their music is a variation from what we have, so the students are pretty eager about it,” Burnworth said.
Dirty Revival is known for their powerful sound and impressively splendid classics with an electrifying presence. They have shared the stage with many popular artists such as Michael Franti, George Clinton and the Parliament Funkadelic, Sir Mix-A-Lot, Slick Rick, Nappy Roots and Gift of Gab.
Their band is made up of seven individuals playing different instruments who work together to create the same harmony.
Lead singer, Clarke, is a native of Portland and has a long history with music. Guitarist Evan “evv’n’flo” Simko is another PDX native, who is currently working in hip-hop production and film scoring.
Drummer Terry Drysdale has been playing drums since the age of 10. He has also taught music professionally.
A graduate of Portland State’s jazz program, Ben Turner started piano at age 8 and Hammond organ soon after.
Bassist Jon Shaw is well known in the Portland music community, as a player, teacher and ultimate noodler. He also plays with another band named The Blue Cranes.
On the trumpet, you can find another Portland native Thomas Barber.
Sax player Chris Hardin has played his music in various groups throughout the years including a long stint on the high seas performing on cruise ships.
The Dirty Revival has emerged on the Pacific Northwest music scene greatly after a sold-out CD release party at one of Portland’s premier venues, Mississippi Studios. The unique ensemble intermingles classic and original tracks with a resounding presence, no matter how big or small the venue.
Some of their popular tracks are Dirty Love, Lay Me down, She Can’t Wait and more. Their music can be found on YouTube, iTunes as well as Spotify.
UW students are pretty excited to have a new band come up and play here and to be introduced to their new genre of music.
“It seems like a pretty fun event. I’ve looked up their music online and I am excited to hear them live,” Student, Akriti Subedi said.
Fernando Munoz, an employee at the Gardens, said, “Their music is going to attract a lot of people. It will be an entertaining evening here at the union.”
7220 Entertainment’s committee is responsible for organizing the Dirty Revival event. Students can join them at their committee meetings at 5 p.m. on Tuesdays in the Campus Activities Center located in Room 012 in the Wyoming Union.
The committee is excited to welcome students in for a musical evening and shared drinks at the Gardens. This event is free and open to the public.
