The University of Wyoming women’s basketball team beat San José State University this Saturday Feb. 17 in San José with a buzzer beater.
Cowgirls’ junior Marta Gomez put up the winning shot with 0.7 seconds left in the game giving the Cowgirls a 66 – 64 win over San José State.
“The score was tied with 2.4 seconds left and that’s why you hold on to timeouts,” head coach Joe Legerski said. “So instead of taking it all the way down the court, we were able to advance up the sideline and choose what side… We decided to run our out of bounds play with Marta (Gomez); if she was in a position to catch the ball, which she was and delivered again.”
Senior Liv Roberts led in scoring for the Cowgirls with 18 points. Behind her was Gomez with 15 points, 11 of which were scored in the fourth quarter, and sophomore Taylor Rusk who had 12 points.
