The University of Wyoming takes part in the nation-wide NO MORE Week to increase awareness of the community about the sexual harassment and promote safety on campus.
NO MORE Week is held on March 4-10 all over the US. According to the official website of the NO MORE campaign, this week is meant to inspire everyone to talk about domestic violence and sexual harassment and take an action.
“Sexual harassment and domestic violence are huge issues all over the world,” Juan Vintimilla, undergraduate UW student, said. “I think, that NO MORE Week is very important for the UW community. Today I’ve stopped by the tables in the Union and found the helpful information about the resources on campus.”
Meghan Selheim, STOP Violence Program Coordinator, said UW participates in the nation-wide NO MORE Week starting from the spring semester of 2017. This year it is held on March 5-9 on campus.
The University of Wyoming participates in the NO MORE Week through the series of workshops, meetings with the organizations and the discussion panel.
“On Monday and Tuesday, we have Mini-Fair the Union Breezeway during the rush-hours,” Selheim said. “The partner organizations, such as STOP Violence Project, SAFE Project and Dean of Students Office, provide the students helpful information about how to get more involved at UW.”
Another activity to promote NO MORE Week on campus is the Escalation Workshop, which will be held Tuesday from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. in Half Acre room 117 and Thursday from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. in Half Acre room 115.
“This workshop is aimed to explain how to recognize the dangerous behavior of others and understand when the relationships become abusive,” Selheim said. “Also, we will discuss the ways to help the friends, who have problems with domestic violence or sexual harassment and how to report it.”
Thursday from 12 p.m. to 1 p.m. in the union east ballroom the UW community will have a chance to participate in the town hall meeting with the chairs of the NO MORE committee, which is aimed to initiate the conversation about sexual harassment and domestic violence.
Information on sexual harassment and ways to report is widely available across the campus.
“As a UW employee I went through the special training, where I’ve learned how to report about the sexual harassment,” Vintimilla said. “Even though the campus looks to be safe and I never experienced any harassment or violence, I know all the sources. In case something happens I always can contact Title IX Coordinator, Dean of Students Office or get help from SAFE Zone Project as part of the LGBTQ community. I greatly appreciate this opportunity.”
