Born In A Barn’s chicken wing challenge has been completed by only four or five people since the day it was opened and it attracts people when they see a challenge and even pumps them up when only a few have completed it.
Sounds easy, but it’s not so easy.
The chicken wing challenge consists of 12 bone-in wings, and participants have only 12 minutes to complete the whole challenge. One can only eat one wing per minute and can’t start the second wing until the first minute is up. But, the main trouble is they cannot drink juice, water or any soda and can’t even dip the chicken in ranch or blue cheese.
“It is the special sauce, which we make just for the wing challenge,” Savannah Loyd, server at Born In a Barn said. “It’s really hot and it has like really expensive special hot sauce and then ghost pepper and stuff”
The sauce is so spicy that one must wear gloves while eating it otherwise a slight residue of the sauce if touched in any part of the skin may cause a dangerous irritation.
“We use house sauce which is a mixture of angry buffalo, also use ghost chili pepper, we use devil’s wing sauce,” Alan Turner, a Born In A Barn cook, said. “It’s really hot.”
Not only that, when the chicken wings arrive and are placed in front of the participant, he/she can easily smell the chili and know that they signed up for huge trouble. Every wing is dipped in the hot spicy sauce. Even after completing the first wing people hesitate to move on to the second one because the heat consumes their tongue and raises a hellfire in such a way that a participant may want to cut their tongue off.
The single hot chili chicken wing not only burns one’s tongue but also creates a drama of soap operas for one’s digestion system. If you want to try the chicken wing, you better have a doctor’s appointment, gallons of milk and a bunch of antacid tablets by your side. Most of the people don’t even make it past 5 or 6 wings.
Along with the wing challenge, there is also a burger challenge at the restaurant. In the burger challenge, one must eat 12 half-pound patties with bacon and cheese between it. The time duration to complete this challenge is one hour.
“We add a patty, every time when somebody completes it, every time,” Loyd said.
The burger challenge started with eight patties and only five people have completed it. The service providers at the restaurant say that the burger challenge is way easier than the wing challenge.
But before you go for the challenge the workers of Born in a Barn make the customer sign a waiver which states that the one is taking the challenge at their own risk.
Turner always tries the sauce before the challenge.
“There was this time when I said ‘I am gonna do the wing challenge’ and somebody beat me one time and I was like ‘Alright, I am gonna make sure that nobody beats it again’ but I make sure nobody dies,” Turner said.
