One of the University of Wyoming’s most popular sports is Rodeo, drawing large amounts of fans throughout the state and nation.
In fact, that is what Casey Sellers, four-year veteran of the University of Wyoming rodeo team, enjoys most about being on the Rodeo team.
“It’s cool to go to school and be able to compete, we have a huge backing all over the state, especially here in Laramie,” Sellers said.
The University of Wyoming draws large crowds when they travel, as people enjoy marveling at the outcome of all their hard work.
Casey Rae Reimler, in particular, has represented the Pokes well this year by winning Breakaway Roping for the Cowboys two weeks ago in Cheyenne as well as placing 3rd in the Women’s All-around in Gillette this past weekend.
Reimler, who has been competing in rodeo since the age of six, won her first event at the age of eight by maintaining a cool head while competing.
“I just took it one run at a time, and didn’t focus on the points,” Reimler said.
It’s no wonder Reimler and the rest of the members of the UW rodeo team compete at such a high level with the amount of work they put into practicing.
“We practice just about every day, spending hours working,” Reimler said.
Reimler also noted the importance of staying prepared mentally as well as physically for competition.
“It’s very important to stay mentally prepared as well,” Reimler said.
Competing in the Rodeo also helps members make lifelong connections.
“[My favorite part] is the connections you make, you meet people from all over the world, and make lifelong friends,” Reimler said.
Reimler also was very humble and gave a lot of credit to her teammates and coaches, especially Lydia Coe, who Reimler said is doing an excellent job following the passing of former coach George Howard.
The Rodeo team is currently campaigning for fund support to go toward the 69th annual Laramie River Rendezvous College Rodeo scheduled for April 27-29. To learn more about donating to the University of Wyoming Rodeo team visit www.uwyo.edu/rodeo.
