Country singer Cale Dodds will be performing live at the University of Wyoming Union Ballroom on Friday, April 6, at 10:15 p.m.
“We are really excited because this is one of our first shows that I have booked after my radio tour and it is one of the full band shows that I have booked since our radio tour,” Cale Dodds said. “It’s exciting because this is the area that we all wanted to go to for a little while.”
7720 Entertainment is putting on the event and they have organized a free public event titled, Pistol Pete’s Cowboy Roundup, for the first time. Not only have they secured Cale Dodds, but they’ve filled the event with even more fun by partnering with Cowboy Country Swing Club. There is going to be free swing-dancing lessons, along with free food, a mechanical bull and two pop-up-paint parties. The paint parties consist of a local Laramie artists walking students through painting a specific image.
7220 Entertainment organizes three events per semester. They are usually themed and include a plethora of different activities happening under one roof.
“This is the first time we are doing a western event at 7220 Entertainment,” 7220 Entertainment Late Night Event Coordinator Makenna Shaw said.
Shaw sat down with all the committee members and discussed whom they thought they should invite. They reached out to one of the agents and asked for an available country artist. The agent provided a list of artists and the committee believes they picked the best one.
Dodds has been playing since the age of 12 and his interest in music began to grow at a very young age.
“I had a guitar that my grandfather was given … it was given to him as [a] gift, but the thing is, he never played it and it collected dust, it never was in tune, but I was just fascinated with it,” Dodds said. “So, he finally gave it to me to shut me up and I just started writing songs.”
Later, Dodds started performing in a couple of different bands throughout middle school and high school.
“I stayed in college about long enough to figure out that all I was doing in class was writing lyrics,” Dodds said. “So that’s the time when I moved to Nashville and started co-writing with other people.”
His publishing and record deal sparked up when he started uploading songs on Spotify. Dodds wrote all of the song lyrics himself, but he wanted to figure out what co-writing felt like. So, he started writing with some other artists and bands to figure out his own style.
According to Warner Music Nashville website, he recently released his single “Take You Back/Like we do“ as a Warner Bros./Warner Music Nashville recording artist.
Some previous events put on by 7220 Entertainment include; casino night, a de-stressor night at the end of the semester before finals took place, a welcome back game night, a Mardi Grass party and several Halloween parties.
The event is free to students, as long as they show their student I.D. at the information desk. The painting session will begin at 9 p.m. and there will be another to follow at 11 p.m.
