With a variety of activities, events and live performances, there is something for the entire community to enjoy at the 2018 Union Fest year-end celebration.
The event takes place throughout the day today with the theme of Union Fest Strikes Back, in recognition of the Star Wars official holiday, May the fourth.
“Union Fest provides an entire day of relaxation and fun with free events and food for the university and Laramie community,” Julie Curtis, an event coordinator for 7220 Entertainment, said.
Beginning at 11:00 a.m. free food, games, brush tattoos, inflatables, prizes and a caricature artist will be kicking off the event at Prexy’s Pasture. An official DJ of University of Wyoming athletics and UW alum, DJ Zimbo, will be performing live starting at 11:45 a.m. and ending at 1 p.m.
A free cookout with food provided by the Campus Activities Center and prepared by Alpha Gamma Row, more live music and yard games will commence at 5:00 p.m. at Prexy’s Pasture.
“My favorite part of Union Fest is the outdoor concert because it is an opportunity for the students and Laramie public to come together at the end of the school year and enjoy an event together with music and free food,” Curtis said.
Orgone, a band from Los Angeles, California, will be performing during this time thanks to host 7220 Entertainment’s Large-Scale Events Committee. According to the band’s official website, “Orgone delivers dirty, organic, California soul with heart; music that grabs you by the collar, pulls you to your feet and shoves you wantingly onto the dance floor.”
Orgone will also be performing with special guest, Analog Son, a funk band based out of Denver, Colorado. According to the band’s Facebook page, “Analog Son is the brainchild of Jordan Linit and Josh Fairman, with only goal, TO FUNK!”
Curtis said that these specific musical artists were selected by 7220 Entertainment to provide a diverse range of entertainment for the student body and Laramie public.
“It is a great feeling watching attendees enjoy the event that has taken months to plan,” Curtis said.
Union Fest at night will begin at 9:00 p.m. in the Wyoming Union, which will feature a large variety of activities for all ages. Activities will include massages by the UW Wellness Center, inflatables, stuffed animal or sugar scrub making, free food, a showing of the movie “Black Panther” and comedian Alice Wetterlund.
According to Wetterlund’s official website, she is a stand-up comedian and actor currently living in Los Angeles. Wetterlund’s performance will begin at 9:30 p.m. in the Union Ballroom.
The“Black Panther” screening, hosted by 7220 Entertainment’s Film Committee, will take place in the Wyoming Union Family Room at 10:30 p.m.
