Clubs and students converge at annual RSO fair

Gathered on the grass of Prexy’s Pasture, representatives from university clubs and organizations set up shop to talk with students and recruit new members.

The Recognized Student Organization (RSO) Fair, hosted Wednesday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. by the Campus Activities Center, is annual opportunity for students to learn how to get involved on campus. More than 70 of the university’s 250 RSOs set up information tables, from fraternity and sorority life to political affiliation clubs, sports clubs to academic and special interest groups. Students also had the chance to grab free pizza and giveaways.

“Getting involved on campus is great,” said Brianna Lynne, a member of the campus collegiate 4-H Club chapter. “You really start to build your community with others and really get to know faces and it just helps make this place your own.”

The service-oriented collegiate 4-H Club works with local 4-H clubs and hosts some events on campus. In local clubs, 4-H’ers age out of the program when they turn 18, so the collegiate club is working to keep 4-H alumni in Albany County involved.

In addition to small organizations like collegiate 4-H, many of the well-known organizations on campus also made an appearance at the fair, including 7220 Entertainment, Cowboy Country Swing Dance Club and Associated Students of the University of Wyoming (ASUW), the governing organization for students.

ASUW allows students to have a say over the way things on campus run through a democratic process. One member who feels it is important to take part in ASUW is Sadie Gruntmier.

“I think it’s important to be involved on campus because the University of Wyoming is home to many students for four years,” Gruntmier said, “and during our time here we should make our institution as good as it can be. I joined ASUW because I realized how much it does for its constituents, and I want to continue to be a voice for positive change on campus.”

Though all students are Wyoming Cowboys, participation in campus clubs and organizations is a chance for them to find their tribe. Whether it is ASUW advocating for students and creating a better campus or collegiate 4-H helping kids succeed in their projects, there truly is a club or organization for everyone here at the University of Wyoming.
