Wyoming defense looks to bounce back

The Wyoming defense gave up 394 yards of total offense, 319 passing, and 41 points to Washington State University and will face another explosive offense in Missouri that lead the SEC in yards per game a last season.

While Washington State was able to move the ball against Wyoming, the team knows they must leave what happened last week in the past.

“We are going to watch the film from this last week and learn from it,” said junior linebacker Logan Wilson. “We can not let a team beat us twice as Coach Bohl has said. We can’t let Washington State beat us while playing Missouri because we are down in the dumps.”

While the game went poorly for Wyoming they have been able to bounce back from tough losses before. Last year Wyoming was beaten by a similar margin when playing Oregon, but the team still went on to win eight games that season. Wilson said that with there being a lot of season left to play the defense has plenty of time to regroup and get better.

There is a lot of experience on this team and with that comes the ability to regroup and bounce back. Senior safety and captain Marcus Epps believes this team will recover from this previous week.

Wyoming will face a Missouri team that has a talented receiver and a quarterback that is receiving national attention. While Missouri may be apart of the SEC, possibly the best conference in college football, players are not focusing on the hype that surrounds the conference.

“We just have to play our game,” Epps said. “We can not get wrapped up in what team they play for or what conference they are in. We just have to play our game.”

In Missouri’s first game of the season they were able to take down University of Tennessee-Martin 51-14. Missouri put up a total of 553 yards offense with 394 of those coming through the air. Their quarterback Drew Lock is 6’4” and 225 pounds. Lock size and arm strength leads to him being compared with other big strong quarterbacks such as former Cowboy Josh Allen.

“Lock has got what you would consider the pro-football prototype quarterback,” said head coach Craig Bohl in his weekly press conference. “Strong, big, strong arm, throws the ball vertically, he has good mobility, he can stand on the pocket. Those are attributes when you start looking at them with our experience with either Carson Wentz or Josh Allen.”

Most of the defense had to play against Josh Allen in practices a season ago, giving them some experience against a similar quarterback.

Kickoff for the game is scheduled for 5 p.m. Mountain Time on Saturday Sept. 8 and will be aired on ESPNU.
