UW began to require all students, not just those with previous citations for drinking, to take an alcohol awareness and education class. ● An inventory of UW carbon emissions conducted in pursuit of becoming a carbon-neutral institution showed a third of energy purchased by the university for heat and hot water came from coal. ● The university received a $1.5 million donation from the Anadarko Foundation to support education and research on oil and natural gas recovery. ● The Cowboys lost 23-3 to the Air Force Falcons.

The Delta Chi fraternity voted unanimously to ban alcohol at its events and house common areas. ● UW Outreach began offering full degree programs through teleconferencing and correspondence. ● The Board of Trustees approved a proposal consolidating the names of several different agriculture degrees under “Animal and Veterinary Sciences.”

After overestimating how many students would be drafted in the Vietnam War, the university did not offer enough fall classes and had a registration overflow of 500 students. Ivinson Memorial Hospital treated minor abrasions after a mad rush to pull class cards during the registration process. ● 7,874 students enrolled at UW, a 10 percent increase from 1967. The student population had a ratio of two males for every female. ● The Student Health Center ended free prescription drugs and x-rays, a poorly received move, after the Wyoming state legislature passed a bill requiring state-financed public services to be self-supporting. ● After a hitch with dormitory transmissions, UW’s educational radio station, KUWR, began its fourth year of operation.
