The University of Wyoming Police Department’s (UWPD) annual found property auction was held Wednesday at the UWPD north parking lot.
From boxes of sunglasses, headphones, charger cords, bags of jewelry, other miscellaneous objects and a handful of featured items, the auction gathered quite the crowd of college students and other members of the community. The items sold were accumulated over the past year and made for a two-to-three-hour auction.
According to Officer Ira Werger, “The bulk of the property we auction we can’t find an owner to, so we house it, go through the courts, and get an order to auction it off.”
Walking into the auction, there were a slew of bicycles surrounding the items displayed on tables, including two or three tables full of trash bags stuffed with found water bottles. The Hydro Flasks and Yeti cups were actioned separately from the mountain of water bottle bags and were one of the more popular items people were willing to battle for.
Electronics wise, many auction-goers walked away with a box of TI calculators ranging from five to ten bucks a box. A kindle was sold for $27.50, Beats by Dre were sold for $45 apiece, a laptop for $170 and cell phones were going for an average of $16.
On the miscellaneous side, bags of locks were going for $2.50 a bag, sandwich bags full of swimming goggles were up for grabs, a bucket of basketballs was sold, a longboard, a few microwaves were auctioned off, a practically new trumpet was sold for $55 and a couch made an appearance as well.
A size 13 pair of Kanye West’s famous Yeezys were sold for $35 and Timberland boots for $29. More shoes, clothes, backpacks, laptop bags, gloves, books and other practical objects filled the tables to be auctioned off as well.
Werger reported the funds of the found property auction go towards new bike racks for the University. He also said the auction had been going on for more than the decade since he had started with UWPD. Westbrook and Sons Auctioneers put on this successful auction.
