If students are looking for a unique experience to shake up the usual school routine, then they’re in luck this next week. The UW Office of Academic Affairs will be sponsoring Best-Selling author Jeffrey Selingo who will be speaking this next Tuesday, Oct. 2 at noon in the Union Ballroom.
Jeffrey Selingo is most known for his focus on higher education when writing but has also worked as a columnist and editor. His writing has been seen in large publications such as the Washington Post, the New York Times, the Wall Street Journal and Slate. As well as this, he has appeared on news outlets such ABC, CNN, PBS and NPR.
Selingo is also notable for his position as a top editor for the Chronicle of Higher Education. During his time with the Chronicle he worked in reporting as well as editing. In addition, he has earned multiple accolades from prestigious groups such as the Education Writers Association, Society of Professional Journalists and the Associated Press. Selingo has a bachelor’s in journalism from Ithaca College and a master’s degree in government from John Hopkins University.
Some of his best-known books include “College (Un)Bound: The Future of Higher Education and What It Means for Students,” and “MOOC U: Who Is Getting the Most Out of Online Education and Why”. Selingo has touched on the topics of technology, the state of higher education and what the future might hold for those who pursue knowledge after high school. His most recent book “There is Life After College” will be the main topic of his discussion next week.
“There Is Life After College” centers its attention on today’s young adults in college. There are lots of books out there to help guide students and recent graduates and this one focuses on the transition from college life to becoming a working adult. Selingo highlights pressing questions about the job market along with advice in this book for both students and parents.
Selingo currently serves as a special advisor and professor of practice at Arizona State University and is also a visiting scholar at Georgia Tech’s Center for 21st Century Universities.
