Wyoming would score a field goal on their opening drive but would fail to produce any more points on their way to a 3-27 defeat at the hands of the Fresno State Bulldogs on Saturday October 13 in Fresno, California.
Cooper Rothe would make a 44-yard field goal on Wyoming’s opening drive and it would appear the team had finally hit their offensive stride, but the rest of the game would prove otherwise as the offense would struggle to move the ball and get in scoring range.
The Bulldogs would score 27 answered points and force a single turnover on their way to their fifth win of the season and improve to 2-0 in conference win.
Fresno State quarterback Marcus McMaryion would pass for 287 yards and 2 touchdowns while also rushing for 53 yards and 2 more touchdowns on the ground. McMaryion would find tight end Jared Rice for 35 yards touchdown pass in the first quarter and David Tangipa for a 3-yard pass for a touchdown in the third quarter.
Wyoming would produce 104 yards on the ground being lead by Nico Evans who had 18 carries for 58 yards. Tyler Vander Waal would complete 12 out of 32 of his passes for 117 yards.
Wyoming falls to 2-5 on the season and 0-3 in conference play. Wyoming will return home this Saturday when they face Utah State 5-1 (2-0) who currently sits on top of the Mountain Division in the Mountain West conference. This will be Wyoming’s homecoming game and will also be the battle for the Bridger Rifle, a traveling trophy that Wyoming currently posses control of.
