The University of Wyoming volleyball team ended their four game winning streak this past Thursday, falling 3 – 1 to UNLV in Las Vegas.
The Cowgirls were led by seniors Reed Copeland and Emily Lewis. Copeland had 12 kills with .391 hitting percentage and Lewis had 11 kills.
Defensively, Copeland led the team in blocks with four. Junior Halie McArdle had a career high 21 digs to lead the Cowgirls, followed by junior libero Madi Fields who had 15.
The Cowgirls had a tough start to the match, falling 25 – 18 in the first set with 10 kills, as opposed to UNLV’s 15.
The Cowgirls bounced back briefly in the second set, beating UNLV 25 – 20. The Cowgirls had 11 kills in the second set and UNLV had 15 again.
With the score tied 1 – 1 going into the third set the Cowgirls attempted to carry their momentum from the second, but it would prove to be not enough. After battling back and forth the whole set the Cowgirls fought off several match points to tie the game 24 – all. However, UNLV was able to get two quick points and won the third set 26 – 24.
UNLV got the win in the fourth set, beating the Cowgirls 25 – 19 with 13 kills. The Cowgirls had 12 kills in the fourth set.
The Cowgirls continue their road-trip this Saturday, October 20 against the University of New Mexico in Albuquerque at noon MST.
