Weekend Halloween Events

Starting this weekend, the University of Wyoming and the greater Laramie community are beginning events in celebration of Halloween.  From a screening of The Rocky Horror Picture Show to costumed bronco riding to “spooky” science shows, there is something for everyone to get involved in the Halloween spirit.

Beginning on Friday and running late through Saturday members of both the UW campus and Laramie community, young and old, will have an opportunity to break out their costumes early.

Saturday 7220 entertainment is hosting their annual campus celebration, Nightmare on Ivinson III: Pistol Pete’s New Nightmare.  Events are slated to include a Murder Mystery Dessert. Valid student IDs are required for participants to pick up their free ticket for this event, in which participants are invited to solve a murder over the course of the evening.

Nightmare on Ivinson will also include an appearance from the medium Marisa Liza Pell, at 9 p.m. in the Union Ballroom, who has appeared on a variety of news networks from CW to CBS.  A mason jar mummy craft will also begin at 9 p.m. in the Union Senate Chambers, while supplies last.

To end the night at 11 p.m. a costume contest will be held and finally a showing of the holiday favorite, The Rocky Horror Picture Show, in the Union Ballroom.  However, this is only the beginning of what the city has to offer this weekend.

The 2nd Annual Spook N Swoop Ranch Bronc Riding and Ranch Rodeo will be held Saturday, in Hansen Arena.  This rodeo is unlike any other, as contestants will be dressed in their best Halloween costumes for each of their respective events.

Ranch Rodeo will begin at 1pm, with bronc riding to follow at 6pm.  This event, presented by Top Hand Tour Ranch Rodeo, is open to all ages.  Tickets can be purchased at the door. 18+ tickets are $10, 5-17 years old are $5, and 5 and under are admitted for free.

Following the completion of bronc riding, people over the age of 21 can attend the Chancey Williams and the Younger Brother’s Band concert at the Cowboy Saloon & Dance Hall for their annual Halloween party and concert.

Finally, to get into the spooky spirit, the Planetarium has set up shows relating to the spooky side of science.  “Spooky Dark Matter” will be shown on Friday at 6pm and “The Spooky Side of Space” will be shown Saturday at 11 a.m.

The UW Planetarium is located in the basement of the Physical Sciences Building.  Tickets can be purchased, $3 for students and $4 for non-students, in advance at www.uwyo.edu/physics/ or in room 204 of the Physical Sciences Building.

This weekend there are plenty of events for both students and the Laramie community as a whole to be able to enjoy the Halloween weekend.  Whether you want to relax and watch ranch rodeoing or break out your costume and attend events at the Union, there is something throughout the community that will give people the opportunity to have a spooky weekend, just in time for Halloween.
