StudioWYO is bringing an indie rock show to campus opening with Mady Anne Lundblad and Elk Tongue, headlined by Denver’s Wildermiss this Thursday in The Gardens at 7 p.m.
Kicking off the night, Lundblad is a UW junior form Aurora, Colorado. She is a passionate choral student and participates in the UW Collegiate Chorale. She has even performed in Spain for a chorale competition.
“Mady was also a finalist in this year’s Wyoming Singer Songwriter Competition, placing first in the Centennial qualifying round and scoring one of the top songs in the final round,” StudioWYO said.
Next in line, the Wyoming-based group Elk Tongue comes from various musical backgrounds giving them a unique blend to create sounds reminiscent of the past with an eye and ear to futuristic feels. The members Keaton Elsasser (guitar/vocals), Seth Leininger (guitar), Shawn Hess (bass guitar) and Dylan Stowers (drums) call their sound “psychedelic desert rock.”
With dozens of original songs and two and a half albums, the audience should expect to dance with the band during their performance.
“Our biggest inspiration is for dancing. We love to see people out dancing and partying,” the group said. “Our sets are mostly originals with a cover sprinkled in here and there.”
Named after a body part of a North American mammal, Elk Tongue has been a band since 2015, but have been making music together for years prior. The band has seen the UW campus a number of times and the last album release show was on the very stage they will be performing at on Thursday.
Headlining the evening, the Denver-based Indie Rock quartet Wildermiss, consisting of Emma Cole, Joshua Hester, Seth Beamer and Caleb Thoemke, has established themselves as one of the most exciting acts to emerge from the Mile-High City.
The award-winning quartet is only two years old but has two consecutive KTCL benchmark promotions under their belt: the annual Big Gig and Hometown for the Holidays.
The group gets their inspiration from Young the Giant, The Beatles, Local Natives, Jet, Radiohead, Sylvan Esso, Half Moon Run, and many more. They currently have sixteen finished songs and plan to play all original songs at their show. High energy, big sound and a space to dance is always expected.
Even though Wildermiss has never played at UW, they are excited to come and hangout with everyone, to expand their ever-growing fanbase and reminisce on a band member’s college days.
“Seth (guitar) actually spent some time at the university during his undergrad (‘09 – ‘10), we’re excited to bring him back to campus,” the band said.
Presenting Wildermiss, Elk Tongue and Mady Lundblad is StudioWYO. The bands will be performing at 7 p.m. on Thursday, in The Gardens, located in the lower level of the Wyoming Union. Admission is free. The Service, Leadership and Community Engagement (SLCE) office will be collaborating with StudioWYO for Pokes Vote.
