Cirque Mechanics, a display that incorporates graceful movements and machines will be marauding into Laramie on Nov. 2 with their performance of “42 Feet: A Menagerie of Mechanical Marvels,” which melds the magic of the circus with the mystique of mechanics, at 7:30 p.m. in the University of Wyoming College of Arts and Sciences auditorium.
The medley was first conceived by the Boston-born German wheel artist Chris Lashua in a flurry of momentum after he had completed a major collaborative projective with the Circus Center of San Francisco in 2004.
Although inspired by modernity, the show maintains a hint of the past, choosing to showcase the marvel implicit in the almost mythical stories of American ingenuity. Through the medium of mechanics, Cirque maintains a raw quality, which it hopes will move the viewer and allow for its message to transcend the present moment.
On Nov.1st, the day before the performance, Cirque will host a free workshop in the Coe Student Innovation Center. Titled “The Machine Behind the Mechanics,” the workshop will give attendees an opportunity for insight into the mechanisms, which will help mime the tales on stage.
Tickets cost $20 for the public; $17 for UW faculty and staff, and senior citizens; and $10 for students. UW Presents also is offering a special family of four package for $40.
