Wyoming Volleyball defeated UNLV of Nov. 17 in their final game of the season and on a senior night by a score 2-3. Wyoming would win the odd number of sets in a highly competitive match that went back and forth all night.
Senior Emily Lewis leads the way for the Cowgirls on offense with 16 kills. The other two seniors contributed in different ways. Reed Copeland helped out defensively with 5 blocks and added 8 kills of her own. Cori Aafedt added 10 digs and led the team with 27 assists. Overall it was a balanced attack that helped the Cowgirls to find a way to win the match that didn’t always go their way.
This was the last game of the season for the Cowgirls as they did not qualify for postseason play. Wyoming ends the year with a 20-10 record and a 12-6 confrence record.
UNLV would jump out to a 3-0 lead but Wyoming would fight back and tie the game at 9 and 10 before taking a 10-11 lead. Wyoming would gain a three-point lead before UNLV would tie the score at 15. Wyoming would start gaining momentum as they would gain a 16-22 advantage. Wyoming would stumble a little during the home stretch but they would hang on to win the first set 21-25. In the second set, Wyoming gained an early advantage but UNLV tied everything back up at 5. UNlV took a three-point advantage and kept until midway through the set when Wyoming tied it back up at 17.
The reaming part of the set would be a back and forth battle between the Cowgirls and Rebels. UNLV would take the second set 26-24 and tie the score 1-1. Just like the first two sets, the third set began heavily contested. Both teams tried getting the early advantage over the others. Wyoming would gain a 10-12 advantage and try to pull away but UNLV tied the game at 14. Wyoming eventually pulled away and won the set 19-25. Just like the first three sets, the teams were close early on until one took control. This time it wasUNLV that took control. The Rebels would win the fourth set 25-18. The game came down to the final set. Wyoming gained an early advantage until UNLV strung points together tied the set at 8. Wyoming responded with a run of their own and took an 8-12 lead. Wyoming went on to win 11-15.
