“Style is a way to say who you are without having to speak.” This is a world famous quote by Rachel Zoe, an American fashion designer, and this week the University of Wyoming’s Fashion Club is putting on a silent auction say who they are to the UW community. The Christmas themed silent auction will take place at the Artisans Gallery located at 215 S. Second St. in Laramie on Dec. 6 and 7 starting at 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m.
The UW Fashion Club RSO is brand new this academic year the fashion department has been around for a lot longer. In fact, the department has conducted an annual spring fashion show for the past four years with another planned this spring. The department members produce the entire event and students teaching them the skills they will need if they will produce their own show in their careers.
The silent auction is also fully conducted by the Fashion Club and funded by them as well. The event’s purpose is to bring awareness to the organization and fundraise for the club members to conduct future events and open up opportunities for fashionable individuals. The club’s purpose is “to increase awareness of Fashion opportunities on campus, create an environment where fashionistas can put their talents and creativity to use, and to develop and empower student leaders” as stated in the Fashion Club Preamble.
“I look forward to seeing many walks of life who will hopefully come to the silent auction and enjoy all the displays & bidding on products,” exclaimed Fashion Club member Letecia Guevara. “Fashion club members created Christmas-themed clothes out of objects that will be displayed at the event – so I hope everyone will be excited to see those! I don’t have anything in the auction but the club will be selling products we made as a whole to fundraise for an industry trip we will be taking in February.”
Part of the purpose for this event is to raise money for the club. Some of this money will be going towards a trip to the Magic Trade Show in Las Vegas in February, which Guevara is very excited about.
“We do have some pieces that are being donated from local stores downtown and student fashion designers,” stated Ramirez. “We will be having mannequins displayed that our members designed out of objects. So there is some fashion displays that will be at this event. We will also have holidays gifts people can buy for some fun Christmas presents.”
The club meets every Wednesday in the Union Skylight Lounge and they spent many of these meetings working to conduct this event. According to Yair Sanchez Ramirez, the president of the Fashion Club, due to the club being such a new RSO, it was more difficult than usual to advertise and prepare for this event. All hands were on deck for this project.
“We will also be having free appetizers,” confirmed Ramirez in a bribing manner. “It’s always scary for events that are so new to get big turnouts, but we just hope as many people come out as they can.”
