On select Wednesdays during the spring semester, the University of Wyoming Art Museum is hosting “Lunchtime Conversations with Curators” from 12:10 to 12:50 p.m. monthly.

Lunchtime Conversations with Curators is a gallery walk-through event with museum curators and special guests that focuses on an exhibition on view in the Art Museum.

“Conversations with Curators is meant to be an informal and relaxed tour,” Raechel Cook, curator of academic engagement at the UW Art Museum, said. “It’s a chance for people to ask questions about the museum and our exhibitions as well as an opportunity for people from across campus and the broader Laramie community to converse with each other.”

The first of these events takes place today featuring the Pat Guthrie Teaching Gallery Exhibition. Each semester, up to four faculty members from any academic discipline may request space in the teaching gallery to present artworks from the UW Art Museum’s permanent collection for course content.

Classes chosen for this spring semester are “Honors 4151 Special Topics: We Are What We Eat,” “Classics/English 4270: Classical Epic Poetry,” “Honors 4151 Special Topics: Stealing Culture: The Intersection of Art & Law” and “Latina/o Studies 1101 First-Year Seminar: Latina/o Popular Culture.”

Cook will lead the conversation and will be accompanied by the UW faculty members who are leading the selected courses. The exhibition will be on view through May 18.

The March 6 event will spotlight the 44th-annual Juried UW Student Exhibition, with select UW student award winners. This exhibition will open Feb. 23 and will be displayed through May 18.

The April 10 gallery walk-through features “Pavel Acosta: Stolen from a Museum,” with special guest Pavel Acosta, a Cuban-born artist. Using primarily paint chips collected from flaking old walls, Acosta uses uncommon resources as collage material to create technically sophisticated reproductions of well-known artworks. Acosta’s exhibition will open Apr. 6 and run through Aug. 10.

Chief curator of the UW Art Museum Nicole Crawford will hold her guided gallery walk-through event on May 1. The event features highlights from “The Dorothy and Herbert Vogel Collection: Fifty Works for Wyoming” exhibition. The works represent the Vogels’ interest in minimalist, conceptualist and post-1960s art. This exhibition is on view Feb. 9 until March of 2020.                   Lunch will be provided following each gallery walk-through in the UW Art Museum’s entrance hall. The monthly events are free and open to the public.

The UW Art Museum just started a new and free student museum membership when a student presents their WyoOne student ID. This is a great way to receive regular communication about event and programs happening at the museum. On top of events being free, students will have the choice of a t-shirt, tote, hat or mug and a 10% discount on Museum Store merchandise.
