Wyoming Cowgirls defeat Boise State 4-2 this last Sunday, improving their record of 13-6 on this year’s season and 3-1 in league play.
“Today was another great win on the road for this team. Boise State came out ready in singles and really took it down to the wire.” Said the head coach to Wyoming Athletics. “Winning road matches in this conference is tough especially against a well-coached team as Boise State. I’ve always felt we’ve had a good team but weren’t battle tested. Now I think we are ready to go, and this weekend showed the depth of our team. We still have some things to work on and this week will give us that chance to be ready for Colorado State.”
In the doubles, senior Tessa van Der Ploeg and Elisa Koonik defeated Lilian Poling and Wilhelmina Palmer, 6-2. The Freshman Ida Krause and Mihaela Kaftanova beat Wiktoria Nosek and Emily Strande, 6-4. Freshman Maria Oreshkina and Junior Ana Royo were down 5-4 against Vanessa Timm and Frankie Trella of Boise State at the No.3 spot which was later not competed.
The Team is adding a new addition to the Cowgirl family, her name is Zarah Mughal. Zarah is from Warrington, England and is a two-time U15 Girls tennis player of the year while attending Hartford High School. She reached the finals of the National Club League in 2017 and was the runner-up in 2018 playing for Holcombe Brook. Zarah has been ranked in the Top 35 while playing juniors and ranked as high as 1817 in the ITF.
“We are excited to bring Zarah into the Cowgirl family,” said coach Clower to Wyoming Athletics “She has the work ethic and commitment for what it takes to get to the next level. She has weapons and strengths you can’t teach. Zarah can hit big and will make an immediate impact in our singles and doubles line-ups.”
The Cowgirls will close out the regular conference season on Saturday against Colorado State. The match will be at 12 p.m. MT at the UW Indoor Tennis Courts.
