UW re-evaluated its pandemic flu plan in response to swine flu outbreaks around the country and world. ● Ten years after the Columbine shooting, BI columnist Meg Lanker criticized the nation for its “insipid, reckless denial over the need for federal regulation of the gun trade.” ● Part of multiple Earth Day events on campus, the program “Environmental Education for Life” combined science and religion to educate participants on how churches can address environmental concerns. ● Matt Haigler was sworn in as ASUW president and Danee Hunzie as vice president. A re-election was planned for the College of Business senate seat after a software glitch allowed voters to select all six candidates. ● The renovated Coe Library opened with two new entrances and a new location for the Book and Bean cafe.

College of Arts and Sciences Dean Walter Eggers resigned, the third college dean to resign that year. ● An Idaho senator called for releasing wolves into Yellowstone and surrounding areas. (The wolf reintroduction would occur six years later, in 1995.) ● The Cowboys beat Brigham Young University at several games of baseball. ● The WYO yearbook was changed to a biannual magazine. ● ASUW considered adding councils for graduate and non-traditional students.

As part of a plan to change Hill Hall from a men’s to a women’s dormitory, more ironing boards, mirrors and clothing storage space would be installed “to make the dorm more compatible for female students.” ● A group of students planned a peaceful demonstration during the ROTC Governor’s Day activities to express their opposition to the “militaristic philosophy of this country.” ● The chief of campus police warned female students to always walk in pairs after dark after the department responded to two rapes that month. ● Laramie planned to open a “Draft Information Center” to answer questions from men chosen by the Selective Service.
