Jerayah Davis’s Amazing Track Season

For Jerayah Davis, a senior from Casper, Wyoming, her 2018-19 track season has been one of the best in school history.

She is a six-time all-Mountain West performer and has proven that she is one of the best that has been through the program. She broke the school’s 100-meter dash and long-jump records at the same meet. This helped her become one of the top-ten this season in the entire NCAA in both events.

Before she came to Wyoming she placed 11thin the long jump at the 2014 IAAS World Junior Championships and finished her prep career at Kelly Walsh High School in the Spring of 2014. She was one of the most decorated athletes in the state winning 11 state championships including all four years in the 100 and 200 meters. She was also a three-time Gatorade Wyoming Girls Track and Field Athlete of the year. She is now considered one of the best track and field athletes this year.

Surprisingly, she is the only female athlete in the NCAA that holds a top-ten time in track and field event. Jerayah’s 100m dash time of 11.18 is fifth in the NCAA, while her long jump mark of 21 feet, 2.5 inches is sixth.

“For Jerayah to be top-ten in both a track and field event, and to be the only one in the country, shows her versatility as an athlete,” said UW head track and field coach Bryan Berryhill to Wyoming Athletics. “Since the day she got here, we’ve thought she’s one of the best athletes in the country, and I think you’re starting to see that. Coach (Quincy) Howe has done a great job with her in the long jump. She’s progressing each week there, and we’ve always felt the 100 meters is an event she could be in at the NCAA Championships and earn All-American status.”

Jerayah’s career-best was 11.41 in the 100m dash and 20-10.75 in the long jump until the Beach Invitational on Saturday, April 20. She had already had the school records prior but they were in different years. Her previous record of the long jump before this season was 19-0.5, and she’s improved her long jump by an unbelievable 26 inches this season.

Her old 100m dash school-record time of 11.41 was set in 2017 and she only ran a sub-11.50 once last season. She has helped the Cowgirls pick up the 4x100m relay event title leading them to have the third-best time in Cowgirl history at 45.20.
